Conditions Treated
“I was sick and tired of feeling sick and
tired. After five years of seeing specialists, Dr. Gertler was the only
doctor who helped eliminate my pain and my chronic health problems.”
—F. B., Marketing Consultant
Dr.
Gertler specializes in treating individuals with chronic conditions caused
primarily by biochemical and emotional/mental stress. Early in his career,
he taught spinal and extremity technique at Los Angeles College of
Chiropractic, and like a traditional chiropractor, he adjusts subluxations
and misalignments of the axial and extravertebral skeleton when necessary.
He pays especially close attention, however, to what is CAUSING your
particular problem(s). For example, if there is no history of blunt
trauma, why do your bones misalign?
Many people
suffer from declining health largely because their autonomic nervous
system is chronically in fight-or-flight mode. The fight-or-flight
response is a survival reflex inherited from the days of the caveman. It
is meant to be triggered by short-term physical threats to
existence—like an attack by a saber-toothed tiger. When this reflex is
activated, all functions of the body not needed to respond to an emergency
are shut down. Digestion slows or stops, sexual function ceases, and the
immune system is temporarily turned off. Physical capabilities are
exaggerated for brief periods of time in order to fight off the danger or
flee.
The
fight-or-flight reflex is designed to turn off once the danger is over
so the
body can rest and return to normal functioning. Unfortunately, in modern
times, the reflex is often triggered by fear and negative thoughts related
to our stress-filled lifestyles. Because this stress is ongoing, the
fight-or-flight response does not turn off. Eventually the rush of
hormones released by the hypothalamus and adrenal glands beats up the body
and leads to breakdown. Most of our clients with chronic problems have had
the fight-or-flight reflex on for years at a time.
Chronic
fight-or-flight causes imbalances in blood sugar regulation, digestive
function, and neurotransmitter production. These basic imbalances in turn
cause negative adaptation in all other systems of the body. Each of these
imbalances can be diagnosed and corrected in our office using a holistic
approach.
A Holistic Approach
Dr. Gertler uses
a combination of kinesiology, chiropractic, meridian therapy (acupuncture
without needles), and applied clinical nutrition to shut off the
fight-or-flight reflex and strengthen peacetime metabolism. Specific kinds

“I was all but disabled, experiencing
intractable neck pain, chronic fatigue and headaches, muddled thinking,
loss of memory and other symptoms due to an auto accident. Frequent visits
for traditional medical care didn’t improve my condition. Two months under
Dr. Gertler’s care, and I have experienced dramatic improvement. I feel
100% better than I have in a long time and owe it specifically to Dr.
Gertler.”
