Frequently Asked Questions
1. How long is a
typical course of treatment?
The initial period of treatment is usually two to four months. After that,
Dr. Gertler reevaluates your condition and recommends a maintenance
schedule.
2. Do you treat
chronic back and/or neck pain?
Yes, the causes as well as the symptoms. Most cases of chronic back and/or
neck pain are related to the fight-or-flight reflex, which causes a
vertical compression of the spine typically affecting the neck and low
back.
The key to correcting the pain is to
discover the contributing factors (structural, biochemical,
psychological), and normalize all of them. We specialize in this.
Normalizing the repressed emotions stored in the muscles of the gait
mechanism (how you walk or run) is an integral part of the correction.
3. Do you treat
chronic fatigue?
Yes. We specialize in treating both chronic fatigue and Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome. They are not difficult to treat, but are biochemically intricate
and usually take several months of treatment for resolution. They are
characterized by multiple factors including: digestive problems,
nutritional deficiencies, blood sugar regulation imbalances, multiple
infections (viruses, candida, parasites), immune dysfunction,
thyroid/adrenal imbalances, toxicity (from environment, food, dental
amalgams, drugs), underlying allergies, and emotional factors.
4. Do you treat
fibromyalgia?
Yes. Fibromyalgia is similar to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome with one
component very exaggerated: intracellular toxicity. Once the person’s
energy production has been sufficiently restored, special homeopathic
detox and drainage protocols are necessary.
5. Do you treat
Syndrome X?
Yes. Most patients suffering from chronic complaints have Syndrome X.
Syndrome X is basically carbohydrate intolerance associated with high
insulin and high cortisone production. These hormonal imbalances
predispose a person to obesity, diabetes, and/or heart disease. The
carbohydrate intolerance can stem from high carbohydrate intake, repressed
emotions associated with the fight-or-flight reflex, improper exercise, or
any combination of these. Symptoms include fatigue, sugar cravings,
inability to lose weight, constant hunger, fatigue after meals, and
migrating aches and pains.
6. Do you treat
digestive disorders like irritable bowel syndrome (I.B.S) and Crohn’s
Disease?
Yes. The two are very different. I.B.S. is a “functional” bowel disorder.
It represents half of all gastrointestinal cases and is much easier to
treat than Crohn’s disease. There are two types: constipation-dominant and
diarrhea-dominant. Both types respond well to a course of treatment that:
• reduces the acidity of the small
intestine with appropriate
supplements
• desensitizes food allergens
• eliminates triggering foods such as caffeine
• defuses the fight-or-flight response
• stabilizes blood sugar.
Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory
disorder associated with acute pain. The pain can be dramatically reduced
by use of a cold laser and by avoiding certain foods and desensitizing
food allergens. After that I would perform a complete physical examination
since the etiology is unknown. Infectious, genetic, immunologic and
psychological causes are likely.
7. Do you treat
the flu?
Yes. Influenza is simply the body’s response to several viruses all at
once, affecting one or more organs. We use an extremely effective protocol
discovered by Dr. Victor Frank. Generally a person feels 95% better in 48
hours. And no drugs!
8. What
allergies do you treat?
Any kind. The most common are foods, vitamin and mineral supplements,
prescription medicines, chemicals, environmentals (pollen, weeds, dust,
mold, etc.), fungus, bacteria, viruses, and hormones.
9. Do you treat
children?
Yes, if they cooperate with muscle testing. They need to have a measure of
self-control. Occasionally we treat infants if the parents ask, usually
for the flu. When treating an infant, we use a surrogate, usually one of
the parents, for the muscle testing.
10. Do you
recommend exercise programs?
Absolutely! If done correctly, exercise is one of the best things a person
can do to support health. We determine what exercise is appropriate for
the person through muscle testing. In the beginning many people need
sub-aerobic exercises for a short period of time. These exercises are
analogous to driving a car that has been idle for a long time. It needs to
be driven slowly at first.
Once the exhaust system (lymphatic
system) and carburetor (blood, heart, lungs, adrenals) are in working
order, the car can be driven faster. This is analogous to prescribing
aerobic exercise. True aerobic exercise done continuously for twenty
minutes or more builds endurance by increasing oxygen-carrying
capillaries. We use muscle testing to determine the upper limit of
heartbeats per minute and how frequently and how long a person needs to
exercise. Each person is different.
We consistently find that clients do too
much anaerobic exercise. Anaerobic exercise creates strength but can also
cause serious health problems if not balanced with aerobic exercise. This
is because anaerobic exercise acidifies the body with its toxic end
product, lactic acid, which must be detoxified in the liver.

recommend any books?
