Applied Kinesiology
About thirty-five years ago, Dr. George Goodheart, Jr., a chiropractor from Detroit, Michigan, came up with the idea that manual muscle testing could be used for diagnosis. He observed that if something weakened a strong muscle it was detrimental to the body. Conversely, if something strengthened a weak muscle it was advantageous to the body.
Applied Kinesiology, the approach that has developed from
Dr. Goodheart’s work, can be defined more scientifically as a diagnostic
tool using the manual muscle test to evaluate the motor or muscle response
of the central nervous system to a sensory stimulus. Since the stimulus
can be physical, biochemical, or mental/emotional, this approach is truly
holistic. A physical stimulus may result from pushing on a bone or
touching a reflex on the skin. A biochemical stimulus may come from
tasting or smelling something or seeing the effect of putting a food or
nutritional supplement on the tongue or on the body. A mental/emotional stimulus can be
activated by visualizing or thinking about a past incident or stating a
goal. Dr. Gertler’s Approach Dr. Gertler utilizes Applied Kinesiology as well as diagnostic tools from a number of ‘Alternative Kinesiologies’ that have evolved from Applied Kinesiology. These Alternative Kinesiologies include:
These kinesiologies allow a broader definition of the form a ‘question’ can take than the usual Applied Kinesiology approach. In Dr. Gertler’s practice, the term ‘kinesiology’ refers to both Applied and Alternative Kinesiology. Using kinesiological tests and some orthopedic and neurological tests, Dr. Gertler evaluates the functioning of eight basic “systems” in your body:
Specializing in Chronic Cases Dr. Gertler specializes in chronic cases that call for a holistic approach. The majority of our clients come to us with chronic problems that have resisted resolution under the careful attention of other healers and physicians. This is usually because symptoms are being treated, not the cause(s); the body is putting up smokescreens that block accurate kinesiological diagnosis (i.e., diagnosis using muscle testing); or complicating factors preventing healing have gone undetected. With over 25 years of clinical experience behind him, Dr. Gertler takes special care to remove the roadblocks to diagnosis and treatment outcomes by addressing and neutralizing the following factors:
Once these stress factors have been neutralized, accurate kinesiological testing is possible, and the outcome of treatment in most cases will be positive.
